The recipe
Baja-style grilled white fish tacos with purple cabbage slaw, creamy lime sauce and lime wedges. A grill-forward recipe designed for weeknight inspiration and weekend cooking.
Ingredients
Fish
• 1½ lb firm white fish (mahi-mahi or cod)
• 2 tbsp olive oil
• juice of 1 lime
• 1 tsp chili powder
• ½ tsp cumin
• ½ tsp smoked paprika
• ½ tsp kosher salt
Slaw and sauce
• 2 cups shredded green and purple cabbage
• ¼ cup chopped cilantro
• ⅓ cup plain Greek yogurt
• 2 tbsp mayonnaise
• 1 tbsp lime juice
• 1 tsp hot sauce
• salt to taste
To serve
• 8 small corn tortillas
• lime wedges
• sliced jalapeño (optional)
Instructions
1. Mix oil, lime juice and spices; coat fish and refrigerate 15 minutes while preparing slaw.
2. Combine cabbage and cilantro. Stir yogurt, mayonnaise, lime juice and hot sauce into a smooth sauce. Toss some with the slaw; reserve the rest for drizzling.
3. Preheat grill to medium-high, about 400–450°F. Oil grates well or use a grill-safe fish basket.
4. Grill fish about 3–5 minutes per side, depending on thickness, until opaque and 145°F internally.
5. Flake into large pieces. Warm tortillas and fill with fish, cabbage slaw and sauce. Finish with lime.
Grilling tip & food safety
A fish basket makes turning delicate fillets easier. Keep the sauce chilled until serving.
